How to run a Last Man Standing
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Running a Last Man Standing by hand is easy to start and fiddly to keep going. Here's the manual way, step by step.
1. Choose who's playing
Friends, a workplace, a club or your pub's regulars. Set up a group chat or a sign-up sheet and agree a start gameweek.
2. Agree the rules and the prize
Use the standard Last Man Standing rules and agree any house rules up front. Decide the prize too.
Running it in a pub? Keep it free to enter, with the pub or a sponsor putting up the prize. Read our pubs guide.
3. Set the deadline
Pick a clear cut-off each gameweek, usually just before the first match kicks off, and remind everyone before it.
4. Collect picks
Ask everyone to send you their team privately, and keep a spreadsheet of who has used which team so nobody repeats one.
5. Check results each week
When the last match finishes, check every result against every pick. A win is through; a draw, a loss or no pick is out.
6. Handle eliminations and rollovers
Cross off anyone who's out. If everyone would go out in the same week, it's a rollover: nobody is eliminated. When two are left, agree whether they split or play on.
7. Share updates
Post who's still in, who's out and the next deadline in the group chat every week.
Or let EliminX do it all
EliminX gives your league its own web address. Players open the link and pick, with no account needed. Live scores, eliminations, rollovers and reminders all happen automatically, and pubs get a TV mode for the bar screen.
